Everyone who has ever got married will tell you that everyone you speak to for at least a few weeks afterwards (I don't know how long it lasts, I only got married 3 weeks ago) always starts a conversation with "So...how's married life?". My response is always the same, "Like it was before". This may make me sound like an ice maiden but for us it is. We have lived together for 6 years and have a one year old so apart from my name, nothing has really changed.
Having said that though, I do FEEL different. I can't exactly put my finger on it but somehow I feel more grown up, more like a woman than I was before. I don't know why because as I said our day to day life is exactly as it was before my status as a 'Mrs' but something, somewhere has changed.
I feel like now I'm more qualified or able to make grown up decisions like buy a house and haggle over a deal on an upgraded car. I feel like I can now legitimately act like a grown up without feeling like I'm pretending. I feel like I can take on the world now with more strength and confidence.
Can someone please explain to me why? How can a piece of paper that says we are now married make such a difference in my life.
Whatever the reasons behind it, I like it. I like that I am now legally part of an amazing partnership. I like that I am going to spend the rest of my life working hard trying to make aforementioned partnership as perfect as possible, whilst we hopefully provide a happy, contented, loving household to raise, parent and expand our family in.
Most of all though I LOVE that we now all have the same surname and somehow we feel like even more of a family.
So bring it on world, me and my boys are ready to make the most of you.
Love the K's.
